What this value means
Served value is the NOMINAL statutory main rate: 25%, applying to companies with augmented profits above GBP 250,000, unchanged since 1 April 2023 (raised from a single 19% rate that had applied since 1 April 2017) and unchanged for FY2026. It is NOT a flat 25% for all companies. A SMALL PROFITS RATE of 19% applies where augmented profits do not exceed GBP 50,000. Between GBP 50,000 and GBP 250,000, MARGINAL RELIEF (standard fraction 3/200) tapers the effective rate from 19% up to 25%, producing a marginal effective rate of 26.5% on profits in that band. Both thresholds are proportionately reduced for accounting periods shorter than 12 months and are divided by the total number of associated companies (so a company with one associate has thresholds of GBP 25,000 / GBP 125,000). The small profits rate and marginal relief are NOT available to close investment-holding companies, nor to non-UK-resident companies. Sectoral surcharges documented but not blended into the served value: banking companies pay an additional 3% surcharge on surcharge profits above GBP 100m (Finance Act 2022), and ring-fence oil and gas profits are charged at 30%/19% with the separate Energy Profits Levy on top. Where a company's accounting period straddles 1 April, profits are time-apportioned between financial years. UK financial year for Corporation Tax runs 1 April to 31 March and is designated by the calendar year in which it begins (FY2026 = 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027).
