What this value means

STRUCTURAL: Ireland has no national policy rate. The Central Bank of Ireland (Banc Ceannais na hÉireann) is part of the Eurosystem; the ECB Governing Council sets a single rate for all 20 euro area members and the CBI implements it domestically. The DEPOSIT FACILITY RATE is served here because, since the operational-framework change that took effect in September 2024, the DFR is the ECB's de facto steering rate for short-term money market rates (€STR). The official ECB key-rates table was re-loaded and re-read on 2026-07-22 and still shows, with effect from 17 June 2026: deposit facility 2.25%, main refinancing operations 2.40%, marginal lending facility 2.65%. NO ECB MOVE SINCE — the 17 June 2026 row remains the most recent row on the table as at 2026-07-22, so 2.25% is the rate in force today and the existing euro-area country files are NOT stale. This value and effective_from MUST be identical to the DE, FR, IT, ES and NL files by construction; any divergence between euro-area country files is a data error, not a real difference. Do not confuse the DFR with the MRO rate (2.40%) — Irish statutory and contractual references to 'the ECB rate' vary: for example the interest rate on late payment in commercial transactions under S.I. No. 580 of 2012 (European Communities (Late Payment in Commercial Transactions) Regulations 2012) is built on the ECB MAIN REFINANCING rate plus a margin, not on the DFR. Effective dates follow the settlement of the first main refinancing operation after the decision, not the decision date, which is why announcement dates and effective dates differ by roughly a week.
