What this value means

STRUCTURAL: Austria has no national policy rate. Monetary policy is set by the ECB Governing Council for the whole euro area; the OeNB implements it and its Governor sits on the Governing Council but casts one vote among twenty-six. The deposit facility rate (DFR) is served here because since the September 2024 operational-framework change the DFR is the ECB's de facto steering rate for short-term money market rates (€STR). The official ECB key-rates table was independently re-loaded on 2026-07-22 and shows, with effect from 17 June 2026: deposit facility 2.25%, main refinancing operations 2.40%, marginal lending facility 2.65%. The DFR had been at 2.00% since 11 June 2025, so 17 June 2026 was a 25bp increase reversing part of the 2024-25 easing cycle. IDENTICAL value and effective_from must be served for DE, FR, IT, ES, NL and every other euro area member — any divergence between euro area country files is a data error, not a real difference. If you need the MRO rate instead (which is the rate some Austrian statutory reference-rate provisions key off, e.g. the Basiszinssatz mechanism feeding commercial default interest under § 456 UGB), it is 2.40%. VERIFICATION SCOPE: the three rate levels and the 17 June 2026 effective date were read directly off the ECB rate table on 2026-07-22 and are confirmed. The surrounding narrative carried in sibling euro area files — the 11 June 2026 Governing Council decision date, the stated inflation motivation and the Eurosystem staff HICP projections — was NOT re-read from the ECB press release in this pass and is not asserted here. Effective dates follow the settlement of the first main refinancing operation after a decision, not the decision date, which is why decision and effective dates differ by roughly a week. ECB UPDATE (verified 2026-08-22): the Governing Council HELD on 23-24 July 2026 - deposit facility 2.25%, MRO 2.40%, marginal lending 2.65%, all unchanged and in effect since 17 June 2026 ('decided to keep the three key ECB interest rates unchanged'). Next monetary-policy meeting: 9-10 September 2026 (Berlin; decision 14:15 CET on the 10th), then 28-29 Oct and 16-17 Dec. A change takes effect from the start of the following reserve maintenance period - this series uses the EFFECTIVE date.
