What this value means

SCOPE — this list is NATIONAL-SCOPE days only. Spanish workers are entitled to a maximum of 14 paid holidays per year: the national and autonomous-community days in the BOE resolution (12) plus up to 2 LOCAL days fixed by each municipality (art. 37.2 ET). The municipal days are not listed here because they differ for every one of Spain's ~8,100 municipios (e.g. Madrid's San Isidro 15 May and La Almudena 9 November; Barcelona's La Mercè 24 September). DELIBERATE EXCLUSIONS — autonomous-community-only days are excluded, e.g. 28 February (Día de Andalucía), 23 April (Aragón/Castilla y León), 17 May (Galicia, Día das Letras Galegas), 24 June (Sant Joan, Cataluña), 25 July (Santiago Apóstol, Galicia), 8 September (Asturias/Extremadura), 9 October (Comunitat Valenciana), 11 September (Diada, Cataluña), 26 December (Sant Esteve, Cataluña and Balears). Any of these can make a given date a holiday in part of Spain while it is a working day elsewhere — do not treat this list as a nationwide 'all offices closed' calendar. SUBSTITUTION/TRANSFER RULES APPLIED: (1) Under art. 37.2 ET and RD 2001/1983, a national holiday falling on a Sunday is moved to the following Monday. In 2026 this bites twice — 1 November (Todos los Santos) is a Sunday, so 2 November is the holiday; 6 December (Día de la Constitución) is a Sunday, so 7 December is the holiday. Both appear as such in the BOE resolution, and both Sundays were confirmed by calendar computation. (2) SEVEN days are legally NON-SUBSTITUTABLE by the autonomous communities and are therefore firm everywhere: 1 January, 3 April (Viernes Santo), 1 May, 15 August, 12 October, 8 December, 25 December — the resolution flags exactly these seven with a single asterisk. 6 January carries the DOUBLE asterisk in the resolution, meaning a national day in respect of which the substitution power has not been exercised, which is a different legal category. (3) Four days in this list — 6 January, 2 April (Jueves Santo), 2 November, 7 December — are legally SUBSTITUTABLE: an autonomous community may swap them for a traditional regional festivity. In practice for 2026 essentially all communities retain 6 January and Jueves Santo (Cataluña is the standing exception on Jueves Santo, observing Dilluns de Pasqua / Easter Monday 6 April instead). Treat the four substitutable days as high-confidence but not universal. NO MOON-SIGHTING OR PROVISIONAL DATES: Easter 2026 falls on 5 April, computed by the Gregorian computus, so Jueves Santo = 2 April and Viernes Santo = 3 April are fixed and certain. The resolution is a long table mixing national and per-community columns, so machine extraction requires care to avoid pulling regional rows into a national list. 2027 EXTENSION (2026-07-30): PROVISIONAL. The 2027 dates are the statutory state list under Art. 37.2 of the Estatuto de los Trabajadores with the mandatory Sunday-transfer rule of Art. 45 RD 2001/1983 applied. The annual consolidating BOE resolution for 2027 had NOT been published as at 30 July 2026 (the 2026 one is the Resolucion de 17 de octubre de 2025; the 2027 equivalent is expected around October 2026), so re-verify then. The dates are corroborated by an already-published official 2027 instrument: Decreto 84/2026 de 29 de abril (BOJA, Andalucia), which confirms the national days and the transfer of the Assumption from Sunday 15 August to Monday 16 August 2027. The 2026 transfers of All Saints and Constitution Day do NOT recur: 1 November and 6 December 2027 both fall on Mondays. Note the rule is Sunday-only, so Labour Day and Christmas Day 2027 (both Saturdays) are not transferred. The 19 March / 25 July slot is elected by each autonomous community and is not served in this national list.
