Headline (índice general) YoY for August 2026 is 4.3%, seven tenths above the July 2026 confirmed rate of 3.6%. Companion readings from the same INE note: monthly change of the general index +0.7%; core inflation (inflación subyacente — excluding unprocessed food and energy) 2.9% (down one tenth from July); EU-harmonised IPCA annual rate 4.5% (up six tenths from July); IPCA core 3.2%; IPCA monthly +0.6%. Do not substitute IPCA for IPC. INE attributes the annual rise mainly to fuels and lubricants for personal vehicles (up versus a year-ago decline) and, to a lesser extent, food and non-alcoholic drinks. This is a flash estimate and may be revised when the definitive August 2026 IPC is published.
