Banca Naţională a României rata dobânzii de politică monetară — the fixed rate on the BNR's main open-market operations (normally one-week repo tenders at a fixed rate), set by the Consiliul de administraţie al BNR under Legea nr. 312/2004 privind Statutul BNR. The lending (Lombard) and deposit facility rates form a symmetric ±100bps corridor around it. Romania is an EU member but NOT in the euro area, so it retains the leu and an independent policy rate; the ECB deposit facility rate is not the operative rate for Romania.

Corridor unchanged: Lombard (credit facility) 7.50%, deposit facility 5.50%. Reserve requirement ratios on lei and FX liabilities also unchanged. Context from the 8 Jul 2026 communiqué: annual CPI inflation rose to 10.85% in May 2026 from 9.87% in March, driven by natural gas, fuels, administered prices and a large increase in state-housing rents; adjusted CORE2 rose to 8.5% in May from 8.2% in March; HICP inflation 9.7% in May. GDP stagnated in Q1 2026 (-1.2% y/y) after -1.9% q/q in Q4 2025. The Board expects a SUBSTANTIAL fall in annual inflation in Q3 2026 as the direct effects of the electricity price-cap removal and of the August 2025 VAT and excise increases drop out of the base — i.e. the current double-digit print is largely a tax/administered-price effect, not a reason to expect a hike.
