What this value means
1.75%, in force since 1 October 2025. CONFIRMED TODAY BY VALUE, NOT BY INFERENCE: the Riksbank's own SWEA statistics API returned {"date":"2026-07-22","value":1.75} on the confirmation date, i.e. the central bank itself states this is the rate in force on 2026-07-22. DO NOT SERVE THE ECB RATE FOR SWEDEN. Sweden is an EU member but is not in the euro area, is not in ERM II, has no target date for euro adoption (the September 2003 referendum rejected it), and retains a fully independent central bank and its own currency, the Swedish krona. Fleets that treat 'EU' as 'euro area' will wrongly serve the ECB deposit facility rate (2.25% effective 17 June 2026) here; that figure is correct for DE/FR/IT/ES/NL and WRONG for SE. As a cross-check the ECB key-rates table was re-loaded on 2026-07-22 and still shows DFR 2.25% / MRO 2.40% / MLF 2.65% effective 17 June 2026, so the euro-area invariant is unchanged — but it has no bearing on this series. The 1.75% level was set by the decision of 23 September 2025, a 25bp cut from 2.00%, and was left UNCHANGED at every subsequent monetary policy meeting: January, March, May and June 2026. The most recent decision was taken at the meeting of 16 June 2026 ('Styrräntan oförändrad på 1,75 procent'); the minutes were published 24 June 2026. The rate level itself therefore dates from 1 October 2025 and effective_from reflects that, not the date of the most recent (no-change) decision. NAMING: the instrument was called the 'reporänta' (repo rate) until 8 June 2022, when the Riksbank renamed it 'styrräntan' as the second step of its operational-framework overhaul; the data series is still labelled SECBREPOEFF for continuity, which is why an API series id containing 'REPO' is nonetheless the current policy rate. DECISION vs APPLICATION DATE: the Riksbank announces a decision and then applies it from a later Wednesday — 23 September 2025 (decision) versus 1 October 2025 (applied), and 17 June 2026 (announcement) versus 24 June 2026 (applied). Use the applied date, as this series does. DO NOT CONFUSE WITH THE STANDING FACILITIES: the Riksbank publishes a separate deposit rate (SECBDEPOEFF) and lending rate (SECBLENDEFF); the API's own series metadata describes them as 0.75pp below and 0.75pp above the policy rate respectively. That metadata text may predate the 8 June 2022 framework change, so a consumer who actually needs the facility rates should pull those two series directly rather than compute them — they were not independently re-verified in this pass. MANDATE: the price-stability objective sits in 2 kap. 1 § lagen (2022:1568) om Sveriges riksbank (in force 1 January 2023), and the Riksbank specifies the target as 2% annual change in the CPIF (KPIF) — NOT the headline KPI served in the cpi series of this series. ACCESS QUIRK: riksbank.se HTML pages (press releases, the styrränta statistics page, the calendar) are JavaScript-rendered and return only navigation chrome to automated fetches; api.riksbank.se/swea/v1 returns clean JSON and is the correct re-verification target. The Riksbank holds eight monetary policy meetings a year; the next announcement after 17 June 2026 is reported as 20 August 2026, but that schedule was not re-verified at riksbank.se in this pass.
