What this value means

June 2026 national CPI inflation 1.9% year-on-year, unchanged from May 2026. The release states verbatim: 'I juni steg det samlede forbrugerprisindeks med 1,9 pct. i forhold til samme måned året før. I maj var den tilsvarende stigning ligeledes 1,9 pct.' Month-on-month the index rose 0.2% from May to June. Both the headline and the whole history array below were read directly out of StatBank table PRIS01 via the Danmarks Statistik JSON API on 2026-07-22 rather than transcribed from press text, so the figures are the published series, not a summary of it. DRIVERS: transport is the largest contributor to the June headline, chiefly fuel prices (+0.34pp growth contribution year-on-year); housing rent (husleje, 20.75% of the basket) contributes +0.56pp. Month-on-month the rise came from hotel stays, package holidays and summer-house rentals (+0.31pp combined), partly offset by falls in fuel, clothing and electricity (−0.20pp). CORE INFLATION 2.3% in June, up from 2.1% in May — note core is ABOVE headline here, the reverse of the usual pattern, and is driven by rent. Danmarks Statistik defines core as the CPI excluding energy and unprocessed food. CPI vs HICP — THESE ARE DIFFERENT SERIES AND MUST NOT BE MIXED. The Danish national CPI read 1.9% in June 2026; the EU-harmonised HICP for Denmark (StatBank table PRIS07) read 1.8% in the same month. The two have diverged by 0.1-0.2pp in every month of 2026 (Jan 0.8 vs 0.6, Feb 0.7 vs 0.5, Mar 1.2 vs 1.0, Apr 1.4 vs 1.2, May 1.9 vs 1.8, Jun 1.9 vs 1.8). Eurostat, the ECB and euro-area comparisons use HICP; Danish domestic indexation, contracts and public debate use the national CPI, which is the series served here. Danmarks Statistik additionally publishes a NETTOPRISINDEKS (net price index, PRIS04) which strips out indirect taxes and subsidies — a third series again, and a common mis-pick for Denmark specifically because the net price index is the one used for several statutory Danish indexation purposes. 2026 SHAPE OF THE SERIES: inflation collapsed from 1.9% in December 2025 to 0.8% in January 2026 and 0.7% in February — the January release attributes the drop principally to falling electricity prices within the housing group — then climbed back to 1.9% by May. A consumer looking at a single 2026 month will get a very different picture depending on which month; the January-February trough is a genuine energy base effect, not a data error. PUBLICATION CADENCE: one release per month around the 10th, covering the previous month; Denmark publishes no flash estimate for the national CPI, so the first published figure is the definitive one and revisions are rare. July 2026 data was not yet published as of the confirmation date. Access quirks: the dst.dk release URLs come in two shapes — the short form https://www.dst.dk/nyt/<cid> and the long form https://www.dst.dk/da/Statistik/udgivelser/NytHtml?cid=<cid> — and the cid numbers are NOT sequential by date; cid 50278 is the JUNE 2025 release and cid 52438 is the JUNE 2026 release, so a naive search for 'inflation June' will land you a year off, with an identical 1.9% headline that makes the mistake invisible. Verify the year on the page before use. The StatBank JSON API at https://api.statbank.dk/v1/data (POST) is the reliable machine route; note that the older table PRIS111 still exists but stopped at 2025M12 and is superseded by PRIS01. The index reference base of PRIS01 was not verified in this pass; the year-on-year rates served here are base-independent.
