What this value means

Headline national kuluttajahintaindeksi (KHI), +2.1% year-on-year in June 2026, unchanged from May 2026 (+2.1%). Month-on-month, consumer prices FELL about 0.2% (index 102.14 in May to 101.89 in June). Tilastokeskus reported that the largest upward contributors year-on-year were electricity, petrol (95 E10) and diesel (EN 590), while the strongest downward pull came from lower interest rates on housing loans, consumer credit and student loans. WHICH INDEX: the value served is the NATIONAL kuluttajahintaindeksi (KHI), the legally relevant index for Finnish index clauses, rent and pension/benefit adjustment. Tilastokeskus separately publishes a Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (yhdenmukaistettu kuluttajahintaindeksi, HICP) used in the euro-area aggregate by the ECB; the preliminary HICP was +2.7% year-on-year in June 2026, materially ABOVE the national KHI - the two use different basket/weighting treatments (notably owner-occupied housing and the treatment of interest costs, which lower the national KHI when rates fall) and must not be treated as interchangeable. BASE-YEAR CHANGE: with the January 2026 annual review Tilastokeskus rebased the national KHI to 2025=100 (from the previous 2020=100 base), so index point figures from 2026 are not directly comparable in level with pre-2026 point figures, though the year-on-year percentage changes remain comparable. Access: stat.fi serves the KHI statistics landing page as clean static HTML and states the 2.1% June figure and the 101.89 index point directly; the durable URL is the statistics page https://stat.fi/en/statistics/khi (individual monthly publication permalinks under stat.fi/en/publication/... are less stable).
