Reference month July 2026, published 7 August 2026. Headline CPI +1.2% YoY — a sharp deceleration from June's +1.7% — with prices down 0.1% month-on-month; the fall was led by food (-1.1% MoM) and household energy (-0.9% MoM). The gyorstájékoztató is the final monthly print, not a flash. Note the mandatory retail margin caps on staple foods continue to hold the food component down. Headline inflation is now well below the MNB's 3% target midpoint and near the bottom of the ±1pp tolerance band, which is the basis for the current rate-cutting cycle. The EU-comparable HICP for Hungary runs above the national CPI and is what Eurostat publishes — do not conflate them; the pensioner CPI (nyugdíjas fogyasztóiár-index) and core (maginfláció) are separate companion measures in the same release.
