What this value means
The statutory list is closed — Hungary has no regional or municipal public holidays and no 'bank holiday' category outside Mt. 102. § (1). Nagypéntek (Good Friday) was added to the list with effect from 2017; before that Hungary had ten statutory days. 2026 movable dates derive from Western Easter Sunday 5 April 2026: Good Friday 3 April, Easter Monday 6 April, Pentecost 24 May, Whit Monday 25 May. NO substitution for weekend falls: 15 March 2026 (Sunday), 1 November 2026 (Sunday) and 26 December 2026 (Saturday) are simply lost — Hungarian law provides no 'observed on Monday' rule. WORKING-SATURDAY SWAPS (a real trap for business-day and payroll calculations, and the reason this series must be refreshed annually): under Mt. 102. § (5) the minister for the national economy sets the work schedule around public holidays by decree. For 2026, 10/2025. (IV. 30.) NGM rendelet (Magyar Közlöny 2025/51, in force 1 Jan 2026, expiring 1 Jan 2027) makes three Saturdays ordinary WORKING days and three weekdays rest days for employers operating a general (Mon–Fri) work schedule: Saturday 10 January worked for rest day Friday 2 January; Saturday 8 August worked for rest day Friday 21 August; Saturday 12 December worked for rest day Thursday 24 December. Decree text: https://njt.jog.gov.hu/jogszabaly/2025-10-20-2X . Those swapped days are NOT munkaszüneti napok and are therefore not listed above; 24 December is a rest day in 2026 but has never been a statutory public holiday. Result in 2026: four four-day and three three-day long weekends. Pay rules: work on a munkaszüneti nap may only be scheduled in the cases listed in Mt. 101. § and attracts a 100% wage supplement (Mt. 140. §); monthly-salaried employees are paid the holiday without deduction. The 2027 NGM work-schedule decree is normally published around April 2026 — check for it when rolling this series forward. 2027 EXTENSION (2026-07-29): 2027 dates carried forward from the permanent statutory holiday calendar — fixed-date holidays keep their date, Easter-linked holidays computed for Easter Sunday 28 March 2027. No automatic weekend substitution applies. One-off 2027 proclamations (if any) are not included; re-verify against the official source near-year.
