Hungary Minimum wage (kötelező legkisebb munkabér / minimálbér), monthly gross

Hungary Minimum wage (kötelező legkisebb munkabér / minimálbér), monthly gross is 322800 HUF per month, gross, in force since 1 Jan 2026. It was 290800 HUF per month, gross before that. Last checked against the official source on 24 Jul 2026.

Hungary sets TWO statutory wage floors by annual government decree under Mt. (2012. évi I. törvény) 153. §: the minimálbér (general minimum wage for jobs with no qualification requirement) and the garantált bérminimum (guaranteed wage minimum for jobs requiring at least secondary education or secondary-level vocational qualification). This series carries the headline minimálbér, monthly gross, for full-time employment; the garantált bérminimum is documented in notes. Amounts are agreed in the VKF (Állandó Konzultációs Fórum, the tripartite government–employer–union forum) and then promulgated by Korm. rendelet in the Magyar Közlöny.

What this value means

TWO FLOORS — do not conflate. (a) MINIMÁLBÉR (no qualification required), from 1 Jan 2026: 322,800 HUF/month, 74,210 HUF/week, 14,850 HUF/day, 1,856 HUF/hour. (b) GARANTÁLT BÉRMINIMUM (jobs requiring at least secondary education or secondary-level vocational qualification), from 1 Jan 2026: 373,200 HUF/month, 85,800 HUF/week, 17,160 HUF/day, 2,145 HUF/hour. Both are GROSS full-time figures and are pro-rated for part-time and for performance-based pay. Increases for 2026: minimálbér +11.0% (from 290,800), garantált bérminimum +7.0% (from 348,800) — deliberately asymmetric, compressing the skilled-wage premium from 19.9% to 15.6%. BRIEF CORRECTION / TRAP: the November 2024 three-year VKF wage deal had pencilled in +13% for 2026 and +14% for 2027 on a path to minimum wage = 50% of the average gross wage; that path was renegotiated during autumn 2025 and the decree delivers 11%, not 13% — cite the decree, not the 2024 agreement. Hungarian minimum wages are NOT geographically or sectorally differentiated, and there is no separate youth or apprentice sub-minimum. Separate, lower floors exist for public-works employment (közfoglalkoztatási bér), set by a different decree and outside this series. 426/2025 repealed and replaced 394/2024. (XII. 12.) Korm. rendelet with effect from 1 Jan 2026. Figures cross-checked against NAV's own published table (https://nav.gov.hu/ado/jarulek/Minimalber_garantalt_berminimum), which lists 322,800 / 373,200 from 2026.01.01 — NAV and the decree agree. The minimálbér is load-bearing well beyond payroll: it indexes social-contribution minimums, the KATA/KIVA thresholds, several szja allowances and various fee schedules. Next annual fixing expected effective 1 January 2027 (decree normally published in the second half of December).
