Norway public holidays
Norway's public holidays for calendar year 2026. Statutory basis: the helligdager (church/red-letter days) are defined by Lov om helligdager og helligdagsfred (Helligdagsloven, 1995); 1 May and 17 May are separate offentlige høgtidsdager under Lov 26. april 1947 om 1 og 17 mai som høgtidsdager. Movable feasts follow the WESTERN (Gregorian) Easter — Easter Sunday is 5 April 2026.

What this value means
Twelve red days in 2026. Fixed helligdager: 1 Jan, 25 Dec, 26 Dec. Movable (Western Easter, Easter Sunday 5 Apr 2026): Maundy Thursday 2 Apr, Good Friday 3 Apr, Easter Sunday 5 Apr, Easter Monday 6 Apr, Ascension (39 days after Easter) 14 May, Whit Sunday (Pentecost, 49 days) 24 May, Whit Monday 25 May. The two 'offentlige høgtidsdager' are 1 May (Labour Day) and 17 May (Constitution Day / Syttende mai). Note that Norway has NO Monday-transfer ('substitute day') rule: holidays falling on a weekend are simply lost. In 2026 that hits hard — 17 May (Constitution Day) and 24 May (Whit Sunday) both fall on Sundays, and 26 Dec falls on a Saturday, so those give no extra day off. All Sundays are also helligdager under the Act but are not listed individually here. Christmas Eve (24 Dec) and New Year's Eve (31 Dec) are ordinary working days by law, though widely treated as half/free days by collective agreement — not included. Statutory list corroborated against multiple Norwegian calendars; dates cross-checked by Easter computus. 2027 EXTENSION (2026-07-29): 2027 dates carried forward from the permanent statutory holiday calendar — fixed-date holidays keep their date, Easter-linked holidays computed for Easter Sunday 28 March 2027. No automatic weekend substitution applies. One-off 2027 proclamations (if any) are not included; re-verify against the official source near-year.
