What this value means
FOURTEEN statutory non-working days in 2026, enumerated exhaustively in art. 1 pkt 1 lit. a-m of the 1951 Act, which was loaded in full on 2026-07-22. Art. 1 pkt 2 additionally declares every SUNDAY a non-working day; Sundays are deliberately not enumerated here. NEWEST ENTRY — THE MOST LIKELY STALE FIELD IN ANY POLISH HOLIDAY DATASET: 24 December (Wigilia Bozego Narodzenia) was inserted as lit. ka by art. 1 of the ustawa z dnia 6 grudnia 2024 r. (Dz. U. 2024 poz. 1965), in force 1 February 2025, so 2025 was the first year Christmas Eve was a statutory day off and 2026 is only the second. Datasets built before 2025 list thirteen days and omit it. The same amending act deleted the words 'w dniu 24 grudnia lub' from art. 218a Kodeksu karnego and rewrote the Sunday-trading regime, including moving the pre-Easter Saturday 14:00 shop closure and allowing trading on the three Sundays before Christmas Eve. NO SUBSTITUTION FOR SUNDAYS — but a genuine Saturday rule that has no Dutch or Italian equivalent: art. 130 § 2 of the Kodeks pracy (tekst jednolity Dz. U. z 2025 r. poz. 277, art. 130 § 2 read on 2026-07-22) provides that EVERY holiday falling in the settlement period on a day OTHER THAN A SUNDAY reduces the employee's working-time norm by 8 hours. In practice this means a holiday landing on a Saturday obliges the employer to grant an additional day off; a holiday landing on a Sunday does not. APPLIED TO 2026 (every weekday below computed and cross-checked): four holidays fall on a SUNDAY and generate nothing — Easter Sunday 5 April, Constitution Day 3 May, Pentecost 24 May and All Saints 1 November. TWO fall on a SATURDAY and each generates an extra day off under art. 130 § 2 — Assumption 15 August and the second day of Christmas 26 December. The remaining eight fall Monday to Friday: 1 January (Thursday), 6 January (Tuesday), Easter Monday 6 April, 1 May (Friday), Corpus Christi 4 June (Thursday), 11 November (Wednesday), Christmas Eve 24 December (Thursday) and Christmas Day 25 December (Friday). Note that 1 May 2026 is a Friday and 3 May a Sunday, so the majowka bridges naturally. MOVEABLE FEASTS ARE COMPUTUS-FIXED, NOT DISCRETIONARY: Easter Sunday 2026 is 5 April (verified by the Gregorian computus); Easter Monday is Easter + 1; Zielone Swiatki (Pentecost) is Easter + 49 = 24 May; Boze Cialo (Corpus Christi) is Easter + 60 = 4 June and is always a Thursday. Poland observes only the FIRST day of Pentecost — unlike Germany or the Netherlands there is no Whit Monday here, and adding one is a frequent error. DELIBERATE EXCLUSIONS, none of which is a dzien wolny od pracy: Wielki Piatek (Good Friday, 3 April 2026) and Wielka Sobota are ordinary working days in Poland, which surprises users porting a German or Dutch calendar; Swieto Wojska Polskiego shares 15 August and adds nothing; 2 May (Dzien Flagi), 1 August (Godzina W), 13 December, 6 December (Mikolajki) and 4 March are observances without legal effect; and 31 December is a full working day. There are NO regional or municipal public holidays in Poland — the list is uniform nationwide, with no equivalent of Italian patron-saint days. RELIGIOUS-MINORITY LEAVE is granted on request under art. 42 of the ustawa o gwarancjach wolnosci sumienia i wyznania but is individual unpaid/made-up leave, not a public holiday. CONTINGENT-HOLIDAY POWER: art. 1a of the Act, added in 2020, lets the Prime Minister declare an additional non-working day by regulation during a state of epidemic emergency or epidemic; no such regulation is in force for 2026. No date in this list is provisional. 2027 calendar loaded 2026-07-27: Statutory 'dni ustawowo wolne od pracy' under the Act of 18 January 1951 on non-working days (Dz.U.
